Dorothy Nelle Spears

1920 - 2012

 

Dorothy Nelle Spears, 91, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Saturday morning, January 7, 2012 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland following an extended illness.  Dorothy was born November 10, 1920 at Watauga, Tennessee, a daughter of the late George and Hattie Range Snodgrass.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard K. Spears in 1977, and by 10 brothers and sisters.  Dorothy was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and was a former associate with G.C. Murphy's and Gallaher's Gateway.  She is survived by a son, Terry Spears, and wife Sandy, of Summitt, Kentucky.  A daughter, Brenda Kaye Yates of Kissimmee, Florida.  5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  A graveside committal service will be Monday, January 9, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Rose Hill Burial Park.  Arrangements are under the direction of PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.prestonfamilyfuneralhome.com.







Mamie Lou Gullett Hatfield

1951 - 2011

 

Mamie Lou Gullett Hatfield, 60, of Ashland, Kentucky, passed away quietly at her home, December 23, 2011.  Mamie was born July 10, 1951 at Paintsville, Kentucky a daughter of Minnie Blanton Spaulding of Ashland, Kentucky and the late Willie Gullett.  She was employed as a daycare worker at the YWCA and later as a counselor with Safe Harbor.  She was preceded in death, in addition to her father, by her loving husband, Richard Hatfield and a daughter, Christy.  Surviving include a daughter, Teresa Tingler and a son, Richard Hatfield. 2 sisters, Linda Sue Bolt and Cora Butcher, 2 brothers, James Gullett and William A. Gullett, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.  It is Mamie's wish there be no visitation or funeral service.  Arrangements are under the direction of PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME.




Brian S. Lowe

1970 - 2011

 

Brian S. Lowe, 41, of Westwood, died Thursday morning at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.  Brian was born December 4th, 1970 in Ashland, KY, the son of Emanuel & Darlene Lowe.  He was a Fairview High School Graduate of the Class of 1990.  Brian loved hunting and fishing and was a member of the Greenbo Archery Club.  He loved working with LeMaster & Co. training horses at LeMaster Stables with his dear friends Roger LeMaster & Amy LeMaster-Conley.  In addition to his parents, Brian is survived by his twin brother James Lowe and 2 special nieces; Sarah Nichole Lowe & Brooklyne Paige Lowe.  Funeral services will be Monday, December 19th, 11AM at PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME by Pastor Paul McNurlin & Pastor Rob Jordan.  Burial at East-Ashland Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be Sunday, December 18th, 6-8PM at PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME.  Condolences may be sent online at prestonfamilyfuneralhome.com             




 

Warren B. Kemper 

 1934 - 2011 

 

 Warren Beecher Kemper, 76, of Castalian Springs, TN, formally of Ashland, KY, 

entered eternal life and rest with his Savior Saturday morning, December 10, at 

Golden Living Center at Brandywood, Gallatin, TN, following an extended illness.  

Beech was born Dec. 22, 1934 in Hopewell, KY, a son of the late Warren B. and 

Carrie Bush Kemper.  He was a proud member of the U.S. Air Force, attended 

Ashland Community College, and was employed by Thompson-Kemper Associates and 

the Ashland City Fire Dept. where he served as Captain for 20 years.  Beech gave 

his life to the Lord and became a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church, 

participating in the Sanctuary Choir and his beloved Bailey Sadler Sunday School 

Class.  He was a member of the Huntington, WV Claims Adjusters, and Rush Masonic 

Lodge # 715 F&AM.  

  He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Roberta S. Kemper of Castalian 

Springs, TN; Stepmother, Carrie Kemper of Argillite, KY, 3 sons, Robert L. 

Kemper of Grayson, Dr. William E. Kemper (& Sherry) of Louisville, and Robert A. 

Hayes of Ashland; 5 Grandchildren, Alexis Cunningham (Chris), Aaron, Evan, and 

Sheridan Kemper of Louisville, Lauren Faye Sparks (Jackie) of Grayson; 4 Sisters 

Loretta Snider (Ike) of Gahanna, OH, Charlotte (Roger), Nellie (Virgil) Cordle 

of Argillite, and Diane Hayes of Flatwoods; 4 Stepchildren, Robert E. Boggs 

(Teresa) of Ooltewah, TN, Jeffrey L. Boggs (Gail) of Chattanooga, TN, Carolyn S. 

McKenzie (Philip) of Castalian Springs, TN, and Ginger L. Reedy of Ashland; 8 

Stepgrandchildren, Josh Rigsby of Louisville, Leighann & Sarah McKenzie of Grand 

Forks, ND, Mathew McKenzie (Lindsay) of Lexington, Stephanie Boggs of 

Chattanooga, TN, Brad Boggs of Oeieeo, FL, Heather Legg & Robbie Boggs of 

Ashland.   Beech has 12 Greatgrandchildren & several nieces and nephews. 

  Preceeding him in death in addition to his parents are brothers, Tandy, John, 

Edward, Ruben and Gary Kemper, sisters Rosa Cline and Jeannette Maiberger, and a 

grandson Joseph Warren Kemper. 

  Funeral Services will be Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1PM at Fairview Baptist Church by 

Pastor Mike Rice.  Visitation will 11AM until Service time.  Burial will be at 

the Smith-Claxon Family Cemetery at Crane Creek, KY.  Arrangements are under 

direction of PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME.

Joe Allen

1948 - 2011

 

Danny Joe Allen, 63, of Ashland, Kentucky, husband of Debby Clark Allen, died Friday, November 25, 2011 at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, following a short illness.  Joe was born August 14, 1948 at Martin County, Kentucky a son of the late Ben and Effie Elizabeth Litton Allen, Sr.  Joe was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Archie, Ben Jr., and Gary.  He was a retired transport driver with Halzit and a Vietnam Army veteran.  Surviving in addition to his loving wife include 2 step sons, J.T. and Shane Reedy of Piketon, Ohio.  3 sisters, Charlotte Sammons of Louisa, Kentucky, Betty Jaramillo and Darlene Lowe (Ray) of Inez, Kentucky.  4 Brothers, Roy, Tommy (Kathy), Randy (Kim), and Donnie (Paula) all of Inez, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11:00 AM by Bro. James Robert Jarrell

James Robert 'Jim' Jarrell, 85, husband of Marjorie Buschur Jarrell, of Lewisville, North Carolina, formerly of Ashland, Kentucky, died Friday evening at Winston Salem, North Carolina following an extended illness.  Jim was born July 23, 1926 at Catlettsburg, Kentucky a son of the late Thomas and Myrtle Ball Jarrell.  He was a WWII Navy veteran, a member of the Fairview Baptist Church and was a retired pipefitter from Allied Chemical.  Jim was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a son, Lorren Jarrell.  Surviving in addition to his wife include a son, Ronnie Jarrell of Ceredo, West Virginia, and a daughter, Judy Jarrell of Florida.  2 step daughters, Karen Hale and husband Rodney of Ceredo, West Virginia and Eleta Height and husband Scot of Lewisville, North Carolina.  Funeral Services will be Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM by Pastor Michael Rice at PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Ashland, Kentucky.  Burial will be in the Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM until service time.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.prestonfamilyfuneralhome.com





Christine Collier

Christine Stapleton Collier, 41, of West Liberty, Kentucky, formerly of Ashland, died Monday morning at West Liberty from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  Funeral Services will be Friday, November 25, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Preston Family Funeral Home, Ashland.  Interment in the Warner Cemetery.  Visitation Friday from noon until service time.



Fred James Sammons

1952 - 2011

 

Fred James Sammons, 59, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, husband of T. Joan George Sammons, died Friday morning, November 4, 2011 at his residence following an extended illness.  Fred was born August 4, 1952 at Ashland, Kentucky a son of the late George and Lucy Bowling Sammons.  He was a member of the Kenwood Missionary Baptist Church and was a trackman and machine operator with CSX Transportation.  He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a brother, David Sammons.  Surviving in addition to his loving wife include 2 sons, J. Brandon Sammons of Flatwoods, Kentucky and J. Tyler Sammons of Florence, Kentucky.  A daughter, Emily J. Sammons of Flatwoods, Kentucky, and granddaughter, Allyson Joan Alferez.   A brother, Paul Sammons and wife Hester, of Worthington, Kentucky, and a sister, Jane Sammons of Flatwoods, Kentucky.  Fred's request was not for a visitation or service but rather contributions made in his memory to the American Cancer Society,  PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123-1718.  Arrangements are under the direction of PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.prestonfamilyfuneralhome.com.


Charles Ray Lowe

1937 - 2011

 

Ray Lowe, 74, of Westwood, Kentucky, husband of Patsy Senters Lowe, died peacefully at his home Saturday morning, November 5, 2011 following a short illness.  Ray was born February 18, 1937 at Westwood, a son of the late Willie and Thelma McCowan Lowe.  He was a member of the Ironville Enterprise Baptist Church and was retired from the Laborers Local 1445 and the Kentucky National Guard.  Ray was a former U.S. Air Force Veteran and was project superintendent for the Fairview Independent School System on the Robert Morrison Gymnasium and most recently the new football stadium bleachers.  Ray was preceded in death, in addition to his parents by a brother, Tommy Lowe, Sr., and 2 sisters, Lillie May Jacob and Phyllis Porter.  Surviving in addition to his loving wife include 2 daughters, Dana Dillow and husband Mack of Greenup, Kentucky and Pamela Clark and husband Richard of Ashland, Kentucky.  2 sons, Chuck Lowe and wife Janice of Westwood, Kentucky and Larry Senters of Boyd County, KY.  A brother, Donnie Lowe and wife Nancy of Danville, Kentucky.  3 sisters, Sheila Hester and husband Charles of Florida, Bonnie Collins and husband Neil of Russell, Kentucky, and Cathy Murphy of Westwood, Kentucky.  5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Vincent Craig Jarvis

Vincent Craig Jarvis, 51, of Ashland, Kentucky, husband of Valerie Johnson Jarvis, died Friday evening, October 28, 2011 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland following an extended illness.  Vincent was born July 10, 1960 at Bridgeport, Connecticut, a son of Calvin Bernard Jarvis and the late Charlotte Monroe Jarvis.  He was a Construction Project Manager and was survived by, in addition to his loving wife and father, 3 daughters, Melanie, Jennifer, and Rachel Jarvis, all of Ashland, Kentucky.  3 brothers, Calvin Jarvis of Richardson, Texas, Kenny Jarvis and Nay Jarvis of Bridgeport Connecticut, and a half sister, Valerie Walker of Gloucester, Virginia.

Dewey Walden LeMaster, 71, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, husband of Barbara A. Brown LeMaster, died suddenly October 24th at Merritt Island, Florida.  Dewey was born August 10, 1940 at Carter County, Kentucky a son of Anna Marie Salyers LeMaster of Flatwoods, Kentucky and the late Glen Ireland LeMaster.  He was retired from the steam power unit at AK Steel and was an avid musician and accomplished bass guitarist.  Most important to Dewey was his devotion to his church, Kilgore United Methodist, his loving family, and his cherished friends at Flatwoods Dairy Queen.  Dewey was preceded in death, in addition to his father, by a daughter, Teresa Lynn Winburn in 2004, and a brother, Larry LeMaster.  Surviving in addition to his loving wife and mother include a daughter, Barbara Paredes and husband Danny of Katy, Texas.  1 brother, Rodney LeMaster of Flatwoods, Kentucky.  2 sisters, Glenna Dillow of Lakeland, Florida, and Velva Hall of Winchester, Kentucky.  4 grandchildren, Tara Ware (Scott) of Winchester, Kentucky.  Ricky Fraley (Allison) of Richmond, Kentucky, Brian Fraley (Emily) of Lexington, Kentucky, and Daniel Paredes of Katy, Texas.  4 great grandchildren, Allie and Andrew Ware,  Aiden and Olivia Fraley.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Kilgore United Methodist Church by Rev. Fred Wyles and Rev. Billy Glen Salyers

Billy Glen Salyers, 62, of Ashland, Kentucky, husband of Deanna Robinette Salyers, died Thursday morning at his residence following an extended illness.  Billy was born March 11, 1949 at Greenup County, Kentucky, a son of Conard Salyers of Ashland, Kentucky and the late Pauline Rice Salyers.  Billy was a former Machinist with McCorkle Machine Shop and a U.S. Army Veteran.  Surviving in addition to his wife and father include a daughter, Kasey Salyers of Ashland, KY, a brother, Roger Salyers of Ashland, and 2 sisters, Debbie Blair and Helen Barney of Ashland, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME.  Burial will be in the Pennsylvania Furnace Cemetery on Culp Creek in Greenup County.  Visitation wil be from noon until service time.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.prestonfamilyfuneralhome.com.





Emma Jean Fowler Parsons Ruffing

Emma Jean Ruffing, 87, of Westwood, Kentucky, died Sunday morning, October 16, 2011 at her residence following an extended illness.  Emma Jean was born June, 29, 1924 at Boyd County, Kentucky a daughter of the late Norman Edward and Julia Ditty Fowler.  She was a retired sales clerk with J.C. Penney in Lexington, Kentucky and attended the Twin Fork Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the Twin Fork NMI (mission society). Emma Jean was preceded in death in addition to her parents by 3 brothers, O.C. Fowler, Sherman Fowler, and Burt Edward Fowler, and 2 sisters, Oreta Ann Lowe and Maxine Easterling.

Surviving include a son, Norman Earl Parsons and wife Janice of Ashland, Kentucky.  2 daughters, Linda Ann Dalton and husband Steve of Westwood, Kentucky and Nancy Ellen Jackson and husband Barry of Lexington, Kentucky.  2 brothers, J.C. Fowler and wife Susan of Winchester, Kentucky and Willis Fowler of Ashland, Kentucky.  2 sisters, Geneva Jo Blair and husband Ronnie of Proctorville, Ohio and Donna Ellenberg of Ashland, Kentucky. 2 Sisters in law, Billie Fowler of Kenwood, Kentucky and Oneida Gullett of Coalton, Kentucky. Six grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM by Pastor Norman Potter and Pastor Tom Stephens at PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME.  Burial will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park.  Visitation will be this evening (Tuesday) from 6 - 9 PM.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.prestonfamilyfuneralhome.com. James Russell Prince

James Russell 'Jim' Prince, 69, of Raceland, Kentucky, husband of Pamela Carmen Prince, died Wednesday afternoon, October 5, 2011, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital following an extended illness.  Jim was born, November 11, 1941 at Ashland, Kentucky, a son of the late Donald and Mary Louise Shope Prince.  He was owner and operator of Prince Cabinet Shop for the past 50 plus years and a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents by a sister, Betty Thompson, and a half brother, Roy Eugene Prince.  Surviving in addition to his loving wife include, 2 daughters, Beth Yearout of Raceland, Kentucky and Melissa Poplin (Mike) of Ashland, Kentucky.  A brother, William Prince (Linda) of Raceland, Kentucky.  Several Nieces and Nephews, 10 grandchildren: Cory, Ryan, Brett, Destiney, Tabitha, Tiffany, Katrina, Kyle, Christopher, and Carrissa.  2 great grandchildren, Lillian and Owen, and one expected soon.  2 girls he raised as his own, Lillian Barna (Robert) and Jennifer McCutcheon (Josh), and their children, Anessa, Austin and Katie.  Funeral services for Jim will be Monday, October, 10, 2011 at 1:00 PM by Pastor Michael Rice at the Fairview Baptist Church in Westwood, Kentucky.  Burial will be in the Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, October 9, from 3 - 5 PM at PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Ashland, Kentucky, and an hour prior to services at the church.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.prestonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
