Church of Catlettsburg, KY and Bruce Terry (June) of Zuni, Virginia died suddenly Monday, August 30, 2010 in Norfolk, Virginia. Jeremy was also survived by 2 brothers: Casey Terry (Heather) of Catlettsburg, KY and Zachary Terry of Boston, MA. A niece, Preston Terry and nephew, Brandon Terry, maternal grandparents Carl and Delphine Church of Ashland, KY and paternal grandparents Sharon and Teddy Crisp of Catlettsburg, KY. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until service time. 1930 - 2010 Evelyn Marshall, 79, of Cincinati, Ohio, formerly of Westwood, Kentucky, passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord after an extended illness August 30, 2010. Dennis, died Wednesday evening at Community Hospice Care Center following an brief illness. She was born March 25, 1929 at Logan, WV a daughter of the late Joe and Fannie Hudson. Thelma was also preceded in death by her only brother Bert Bishop. Surviving in addition to her husband include 1 son: Darrell E. Dennis and wife Susan of Ft. Thomas, KY. 1 daughter: Sharon Brown of Ashland, KY. 2 grandchildren: Melissa Knapp and husband David of Franklin Furnace, OH, and Michael Dennis of Ft. 1921 - 2010 Verna Mae Stemmer, 89, of Westwood, KY, widow of Harry Stemmer, died Thursday evening, August 12, 2010 at Oakmont Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness. Verna was born March 15, 1921 at Ashland, Kentucky a daughter of the late Charles and Amanda Dennis Stapleton. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church and was a former employee with the Clayton Lambert Company during WWII and later was employed by the Fairview Independent School System. Surviving include 2 daughters: Kitty and husband Bob Osborne of Bellefonte, KY, and Jean Davis of Westwood, KY. A brother: Russell Stapleton of Ashland, KY. 3 grandsons: Scott, Tony, and Jerry Davis. 6 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Delores Jane Kazee Lowry, 80, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Friday evening, July 30, 2010 at Oakmont Manor on Flatwoods, KY following an extended illness. Delores was born February 28, 1930 at Steubenville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Frederick Alvin and Mary Lavina Monigold Thomas. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church of Russell, KY and was a retired instrument technician from Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Delores was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband Kenneth Lowry, 5 brothers, Howard, Floyd, Walter, Everett, and Clarence. A sister Viola. And her twin infant sister . Surviving include 2 sons: Thurman Dallas Kazee and wife Brenda of Ashland, KY. George Edward Kazee and wife Janie of Ashland, KY. 3 daughters: Darlene Cordle of Ashland, KY, Mary Francis Bocook of Louisville, KY, and Lavina P. Nichols and husband Jim of Ashland, KY. 2 sisters: Ruth Hickle of Pennsylvania, and Helen Adkins of Flatwoods. 12 grandchildren, 22 grandchildren, and a great great grandchild. Delano was born July 11, 1934, in Greenup, Ky., a son of the late Delbert and Lorena Skaggs McKenzie. He was an elder and Sunday school teacher at Raceland Christian Church, a retired mechanic at AK Steel and a former employee of Merdie Boggs & Sons. Delano was a member of Smith Lodge 775, F&AM, in Flatwoods, Ky., an Indra Consistory Valley of Covington Scottish Rite Mason and a member of El Hasa Shrine. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 53 years, Faye Boggs McKenzie, are a brother, Marshall McKenzie and wife P.J. of Greenup, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, July 23, 2010, at 1 p.m. by Pastor James Matthews at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland, Ky. Harry Thomas Hensley 1938 - 2010 Harry Thomas Hensley, 72, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, husband of Shirley Fugitte Hensley, died Friday, July 2, 2010 at Community Hospice Care Center following an extended illness. Harry was born June 16, 1938 at Paintsville, Kentucky a son of the late Ted and Willa Ruth O’Brien Hensley. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hensley and a sister, Patsy Ruth Sweitzer. He was a self employed Landscaper. Anna Lee Fyffe Meade 1925 - 2010 Anna Lee Fyffe Meade of Russell, Kentucky. passed away Thursday morning, June 24, 2010 at Community Hospice Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Ann was born January 25, 1925 to the late William Jefferson Fyffe and Sarah Elizabeth Pennington Fyffe. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Julia May Fyffe, Murlie Fyffe VanHorn, and Emily Fyffe Elliott; her niece, Mary Wurts Mathieson; her daughter-in-law, Carrie Jean White Meade; and her great grandchildren, Tanner Drake Leight and Taylor Michael Leight. Ann is survived by her husband of 63 years, Azie Meade, her children; William Drake Meade and wife Carolyn of Franklin, Ohio, Kathy Meade Frasure and husband Malcolm of Russell, KY, Deborah Meade Jones and husband John of Russell, KY, and Brian Azie Meade and wife Joanie of Trenton, Ohio,and her nieces Jean Wurts Freireich and Ramona VanHorn Webb. Ann was known as ‘Nana’ by her seven grandchildren; Michael Scott Frasure and wife Wendy, Jeffrey Lewis Frasure and wife Amy, Angela Rae Meade and fiancé James Cody Bamburg, Megan Elizabeth Meade Leight and husband Brent, Lisa Ann Meade, Autumn Michele Meade and Jeremy Brett Jones. Nana has seven great grandchildren; Kaylie Renee’ Leight, MaKenzie Beth Leight, Cooper Jakob Leight, Jayden Lewis Frasure, Ava Nicole Frasure, Greasyn Renee Jones, and Braden Cody Bamburg. Dustin Patrick Layne 1982 – 2010 Dustin Patrick Layne, 28, of Catlettsburg, KY, son of James Patrick and Labecca Gail Blevins Layne, died Monday evening, June 7, 2010, following an accident on Skyline Drive. Dustin was born March 9, 1982 at Cabell County, WV, was a 2000 graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School, a 2005 graduate of the University of Kentucky majoring in Finance and Economics, and attended Morehead State University graduate school where he was working on his Masters in Education. Dustin was a true ‘best friend’ to all who knew him, he enjoyed his involvement with the Kiddy Kapers at the YMCA, liked baseball, and always looked forward to visiting his favorite vacation spot, Topsail Island. He was preceded in death by his grandfather’s, James Lonzie Blevins in 1980 and Philip Layne in 2004. Surviving in addition to his parents include 2 brothers, Christopher Phillip Layne and Casey Taylor Layne of Catlettsburg, KY. Maternal grandmother, Moncie Nichols of Ashland, KY. Paternal grandmother, Jo Anne Layne of Ashland, KY, and great grandfather, Clifford Taylor of Catlettsburg, KY. Dustin is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins, that he loved dearly. Funeral services will be Friday, June 11, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Fairview Baptist Church by Bro. Tim Holmes and Bro. Michael Rice. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery by Father John Noe. William Arthur ‘Bub’ Whitt 1944 - 2010
1982 - 2010 Saturday morning, April 24th, Tessa Anne Harris, 27, was welcomed into heaven by a host of angels. Tessa was the beloved daughter of Barbara "Bobbi" Ross Harris of Ashland and the late Joseph "Joe" Phillip Harris. She was born in Ashland, KY, July 15, 1982, and baptized as a child of God at Advance Methodist Church and currently was of the Baptist faith. Tessa was a 2000 graduate of Russell High School where she was an honor student and varsity soccer player. She danced at Tammy Jo’s Studio in Greenup, KY for many years and was a member of the River Cities Dance Company. She was also a 2005 graduate of the University of Kentucky, where she majored in Kinesiology-Exercise Science and minored in Dance. She was a dancer, choreographer and vice-president of the University of Kentucky Dance Ensemble while she attended UK. She was currently employed by Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital at the Vitality Center as an Exercise Physiologist. Tessa leaves behind many family and friends that will miss her dearly. She was the light in the eye of so many, and everyone loved and cherished her presence. Other survivors include her brother Joshua "Josh" Phillip Harris and his wife Megan, her nephew, Laeton Joseph, and niece, Maya Elaine, all of Oldtown, Kentucky, and her maternal grandparents Charles Robert and Phyllis Jean Ross of Ashland. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as many, many special friends that will miss her in their lives. She was preceded in death by her father and her paternal grandparents Kit Carson and Cobia Ellen Harris of Greenup County, KY. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Winchester Avenue, Ashland, KY. Pastor Harold Moore will bring a message of comfort. Additional speakers will be Elder Charles Knipp of Beaver, Ohio, Dr. Rayma Beal of Lexington, KY, and her special friend, Ashley Holbrook Oldham, also of Lexington, Kentucky. Visitation for friends and family will be at First Baptist Church, in Ashland, on Tuesday evening from 4:00 pm throughout the evening. Burial will be in the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens, Flatwoods, KY. Pallbearers will be Creth Boyd, Pat Day, D.J. Fish, Phil Moore, Matt Lyons, Josh Harris, Scott Ross, and Bryan Ross. Justin Shane Perry 1981 - 2010 Justin Shane Perry, 28, of Ashland, KY, son of Danny and Joyce Berry Perry, died Tuesday morning at his home. Justin was born June 23, 1981 at Boyd County, Kentucky, was a 1999 graduate of Russell High School and a 2003 graduate of Shawnee State University. Surviving in addition to his parents include 2 brothers, Chris Perry of Flemingsburg, Kentucky and Shawn Perry of Ashland, Kentucky. 1 nephew, Kobe Perry, 2 nieces, Alyssa and Alexandria Perry, an aunt, Donna Allen and husband Tom of Coalgrove, Ohio, and a cousin, Lesley Allen of Coalgrove, Ohio. Morgan Gene ‘Pappy’ Daniels 1925 - 2010 Morgan Gene ‘Pappy’ Daniels, 84, of Ashland, Kentucky, husband of Christine Woods Daniels, passed away Monday evening, April 26, 2010 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. He was born in Boyd County, Kentucky, July 29, 1925 a son of the late James and Clara Hall Daniels. Morgan was a retired mechanic with the Kentucky Department of Transportation, he was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran, attended the Heritage Freewill Baptist Church and was a former member of the American Legion Post 76 and the Ashland VFW. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and was a cherished friend to all who knew him. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, include 2 daughters - Brenda Jean Daniels in 2008 and Cathy Sue Kendrick in 2006, and 2 brothers. Surviving in addition to Christine, his wife of 61 years, include 2 sons - James M. Daniels and wife Wanda of Ashland, KY. Raymond Daniels and wife Penny of Summitt, KY. 1 daughter - Melinda Ellen ‘Mindy’ Sublett of Ashland, KY. A sister - Mary Terry of Ashland, KY. 4 grand children - Michael David Daniels, Mary Elizabeth Daniels, Jennifer Denise Kendrick and Zachary Morgan Sublett. 3 step grand children - Josh Cline, Jesse Cline, and Shea Horton. 3 great great grandchildren - Jimma Christine Daniels, Zaine Michael Gene Daniels, and Gary Joshua Kidd.
